The goal is abiding in presence.
The goal is abiding in presence. Presence that is recognized as an observer self. The attention is on this observer itself. Thoughts will come to distract the attention away and onto some outside thing. Abiding means not letting our attention go out into thought.
It is possible to abide in the observer self and think without leaving the observer herself. Various practices have come up to help one make the mind one pointed, not distracted; chanting, meditation on sensation, meditation on sound, matras, religious rits austerities. All of those are simply tools to help one to move past the thinking mind. Don't make the mistake of worshiping the tools.
There are other ways to experience the no mind state. Sometimes when we are in front of an amazing work of art or listening to a transcended piece of music, we are in a state of awe, the state of no mind space. We’re also in no mind space just before we fall asleep because we let the mind go finally. And we’re in no mind space as we wake up before the mind turns on.
The work is to expand in this state and explore it. As we go deeper into the no mind state everything that is not self all the contractions all the separations naturally begin to dissolve. The only thing we need to do is stay in the state and all our karma dissolves, all our relationship issues dissolve, all our troubles dissolve, all our concerns and fears dissolve.
The best thing we can do for anyone, including ourselves and the world is find and abide in the no mind state.
